GOSWI: On Creating a TRIBE

We're NOT interested in forming an organization called "Good Stewards of Wilderness International" (GOSWI). Organizations factor in far too much politics and infighting. Nor are we interested in some sort of fraternal order, or clan, some "brotherhood of the woods," which also are fraught with politics, class distinctions, and a whole host of other impenetrables. Rather, we intend to form a "TRIBE," a tribe of those who care about all things wilderness, with particular emphasis on self-managing our own poop while visiting the precious wild places.

A tribe can be defined as a unified group of people bound together by tradition, by common thought, by shared beliefs, and in our case, a deep passion for "nature," or what Goethe (Guer-tuh) called the "EVERYTHING AT ONCE."

The notion of nature as "everything at once" introduces new meanings for the non-inclusive words "wilderness," "environment," and "us." There is intended in Goethe's phrase a new sense of total inclusion. Those who attach themselves to GOSWI - who truly care about global wilderness issues - who care about what is now called the "environment," also are self-responsible individuals, who personally contribute to these entities in some positive way. They're not mere watchers standing on the sidelines.

All Good Stewards of Wilderness act with a common purpose toward the wild places and the wild things that inhabit them. For one, they understand the destructive elements inherent in their own poop. Thus, when using the wild places, they either bury their poop (carefully, in deep cat holes), or they pack it out and dispose of it responsibly. In short, they care enough to spend money and time trying to turn the tide of ignorance that is now turning the wild places into vast septic tanks of poop and toilet paper, most notably the world's oceans. We who started this blog will use it to support the Good Stewards of Wilderness via articles and via our free e-newsletter EVERYTHING AT ONCE: Wilderness-Environment-Us. In turn we reach out for their support and input.

We're offering a high-value ONE POUND personal toilet product to make it simple for people to behave rightly toward wilderness and the wild things that live there. "You set it up, sit, poop, tie a knot in the greenbag you pooped in, dig a cat hole with our ultralight Digger, and bury your poop and toilet paper. We provide this highly useful toilet kit for under $50. An affordable, no hassle, no mess, solution to the poop problem now affecting the remaining wild places.

If you're in a place that demands you pack it out, all you do is secure the greenbag while you're hiking, camping, kayaking, cross country skiing, etc., and then dispose of it responsibly when you get out of the wild place you were visiting.
