Why Do We Keep Pooping in Our Own Nest?
4 out of 10 people living on planet earth (40 percent) DO NOT have access to a simple latrine (let alone a flush toilet), and 1 out of 5 have NO source of safe drinking water. Often the two go together. We keep pooping in our own nest. Why? The U.N. says some 40,000 people die EACH WEEK from drinking bad water. That’s 160,000 EACH MONTH. Over the last 10 years the number of deaths from people drinking bad water simply staggers the mind.
“There should be an outcry, from the health community above all, for immediate, concerted efforts to confront the reality that sanitation coverage rates in the developing world barely keep pace with population growth,” said Dr. Jamie Bartram, of the World Health Organization (WHO).
“Far more people endure the largely PREVENTABLE effects of poor sanitation and water supply than are affected by war, terrorism, and weapons of mass destruction COMBINED,” says Bartram.
All sorts of goals exist regarding the developing Third World. From eradicating extreme poverty, to creating primary school education, to reducing child mortality. But none of those things is even remotely as important as providing good drinking water.
Half of ALL the hospital beds in the world are filled with people suffering from WATER-RELATED diseases such as malaria, diarrhea, and trachoma (an eye disorder).
Simply put, people are not aware that when they poop, bacteria and viruses from their poop too often find their way to the people’s drinking water sources. We can only chock up so much to ignorance (especially in America and Canada - two highly educated societies - where people still poop too near rivers and lakes and creeks and bacteria and viruses from their poop find their way into those rivers, lakes, and creeks). Is there a relatively inexpensive way to begin the process of educating people about the dangers inherent in their OWN poop?
Ultralight Wilderness Toilet Company has joined the fight to educate any and all who might have the remotest interest in trying to prevent this ongoing human carnage. A SINGLE Packit Toilet kit, which a young child can set up and use, with enough greenbags to capture the poop could save dozens of lives in a small village. If a reader would like to donate ONE or MORE Packit Toilet kits to a particular charity they know working in the Third World, simply make those wishes known to us in an email: mark@ultralightwildernesstoilet.com - and we will package and ship them accordingly.
