2008 Olympics and Poop-Polluted Water

According to Reuters - water sources throughout the world are poop-polluted.  "Beijing, China’s capital city, the place of the 2008 Olympics, sits on the North China Plain, a densely populated region, with something like 65% of China’s agriculture, but only 24% of its water."  And much of that water is polluted.  Why?

"Of China’s 661 major cities, only 278 have sewage-treatment plants.
"  Thus 70% of China’s rivers are severely poop-polluted.  When hundreds of millions of people poop in rivers, those rivers become severely polluted and a danger to everyone who comes in contact with them - let alone drinks from them.

"To think that you can drive a 100 miles in any direction from the capital city of China and never cross a healthy river - staggers the mind."  It’s as if they just aren’t getting it - that the lack of human poop management is the cause of much of China’s health woes - that "the country must undertake a massive public works effort of putting in sewage-treatment plants if they want to overcome these serious health problems."  Or they're going to have to invest in tens of thousands of dry toilet systems (like the Company's Packit Toilet kit) if they want to avoid a potential catastrophic health crisis.

River after river has dried up.  "In some provinces of China the government has declared the rivers unfit for human contact,” says Reuters - "or for any form of agricultural or industrial uses.  Rivers that appear as blue lines - meaning flowing rivers - are actually either dried up or nearly dried up."  Put simply, China is in real trouble when it comes to water sources for their people.

"The people who need these rivers to irrigate their crops are on the move.  They don’t believe any of these rivers will ever recover.  They rivers have been dammed and then pumped dry."  Madness upon madness.  "Is there an answer for the water shortages for the 250 million people who live on the North China Plain?"  (Keep in mind they use only an eighth as much water daily as the average American).  "The government is trying to install precipitation-inducing technologies.  They’re trying cloud seeding.  Nothing is really working.  Tensions are growing everywhere there are water problems."

China has a limited natural resource base, period.  And "China as a nation wants to leap into the 21st century as a major player.  Billions are being spent.  Yet the fact remains, without water - and lots of it - China may not be able to get there from here."  Meanwhile, people continue to poop in their own nest and continue to suffer the consequences for doing so.

We do not know to what extent our Packit Toilet kit will be used - even by entire nations like China - we only know that because humans produce literal mountains of poop EVERY DAY - and that the world population continues to grow annually (in spite of massive efforts to get people to limit the size of their families) - which means there will be more and more poop to deal with each succeeding year - SOMETHING HAS TO GIVE or many nations will face disease epidemics that could make nuclear war seem rational.
